Stellar DeFi Hub security and risks

Vault participation involves more than a displayed reward percentage. Different products expose users to smart-contract, administrative, asset and withdrawal risks.

Smart-contract and upgrade risks

Soroban contracts can contain vulnerabilities even after review. Independent research of the 2026 Sentora incentive contracts describes upgradeable vaults managed by a multisignature administrator. This introduces an additional trust assumption.

An audit is a review of particular code at a particular time. It is not a guarantee against loss, future upgrades or broader operational issues.

Reward escrow and distribution risks

The 2026 campaign’s rewards were held separately from principal and distributed through administrative accounting. Independent analysis raised questions about controls over the reward escrow, so reward distribution should not be treated as risk-free.

Asset and strategy risk

XLM carries price volatility. USDC and PYUSD introduce stablecoin issuer and operational risks. Strategy vaults may further add lending, liquidity, oracle or counterparty exposure that an incentive pre-deposit vault does not have.

Key takeaways

  • An audit is not a guarantee.
  • Upgradeability and reward administration introduce operational risks.
